CQ Media Agency is an independent literary agency in Boston, representing adult fiction by writers in the United States and abroad, with a focus on speculative and imaginative literature.
The agency is building its list and is open to submissions.
About Jakub
Jakub Wolski is a literary agent and publishing rights professional based in Boston.
He worked for more than ten years in publishing and international rights in Poland before moving to the United States. During this time he worked with fiction in several ways: editorial development, foreign and translation rights, and representation of authors and publishers in international markets. After coming to the United States, Jakub continued with rights and editorial work independently. He later founded CQ Media Agency.
Jakub works in Polish and English.
When not working, he cooks enthusiastically, cycles less regularly than he intends, and collects old maps. He lives near Boston with his wife and too many books.
What Jakub Represents
Jakub represents adult science fiction, fantasy, and speculative fiction, as well as some fiction that sits between genre and literary traditions.
He likes fiction with a clear identity. It can be strange, serious, funny, dark, commercial, literary, or some mixture of these, but it should know what kind of book it wants to be.
He is especially interested in speculative fiction concerned with borders, migration, language, memory, political or social change, and the way communities respond when the rules of ordinary life are altered.
For science fiction, he would like to see work involving first contact, artificial or altered forms of intelligence, environmental change, unfamiliar social systems, exploration, and futures that do not simply reproduce the present with newer machines. Large-scale science fiction is welcome, but so are smaller stories where the speculative idea changes one family, town, profession, or relationship.
In fantasy, Jakub is interested in folklore, historical settings, invented cultures, religious and mythological traditions, and worlds drawing inspiration from places that appear less often in English-language fantasy. He enjoys secondary-world fantasy, but does not require enormous maps, dynastic histories, or a continent in danger.
He is generally not looking for children’s fiction, superhero novels, LitRPG, licensed or tie-in fiction, or novels principally concerned with military operations.
